Netflix is, yet again, reuniting with “Adolescence” director Philip Barantini, as there is early development on a series iteration of the Jade Franks stage play “Eat The Rich,” with Franks set to write the project from It’s All Made Up Productions focuses on a story of a young working-class woman from Liverpool navigating the elite world of Cambridge and secretly taking cleaner jobs.
The report from Deadline compares Franks’ adaptation of her own work for the small screen to how Richard Gadd developed the Emmy-winning autobiographic stalker show “Baby Reindeer” for the streamer, which is either a massive compliment or an uphill climb for this creative team to match those impossible expectations. Although it’s unclear at this point if Franks will also star as herself in the would-be series, as Gadd did with his Netflix project.

Here is how Franks described her buzzy play in her own words when speaking with Get Your Coats On:
“Eat the Rich (but maybe not me mates x)” is a funny, fast-paced, and politically sharp one-woman show about class, code-switching, and cleaning jobs at Cambridge. Written and performed by me, it follows a working-class Scouse student trying to survive the UK’s most elite university while secretly working as a cleaner for her posh peers. It asks urgent questions about identity, shame, belonging, and who gets to feel at home in these institutions.
This comes after Barantini is set to direct Adam Driver next in the FBI hostage crisis series “Rabbit, Rabbit” for the streaming giant, which is being written by veteran screenwriter Peter Craig (“The Town,” “The Batman,” “Dope Thief”).
Given the early development status of “Eat The Rich,” we’ll have to wait to see if the streamer is going to give it a series order and who will ultimately be cast in lead roles, but it sounds like a very promising TV premise.
