Stellan Skarsgård Joins Dakota Fanning In Undercover Treasury Agent Thriller Series At Apple With Kari Skogland Directing

A new untitled thriller series from Apple TV has assembled two rather impressive cast members, and their TV project, which focuses on an undercover Treasury agent starring Dakota Fanning, has added veteran actor Stellan Skarsgård to the mix.

This neat casting update hailing from THR adds that Fanning is set to play “an undercover Treasury agent in a multi-billion dollar international conglomerate, with world-changing political and criminal tentacles, who becomes conflicted between her mission and a belief that her principal target, the heir apparent to all that corrupt power, is at his core a good man and worthy of her love.”

Showrunner Alex Cary is behind the untitled Apple streaming series. He previously created the mini-series “A Spy Among Friends” and cut his teeth in the thriller genre as a writer-producer on “Homeland.” They’ve also enlisted director Kari Skogland, who previously helmed “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier” and episodes of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Skogland was also tasked with tackling “Wind River: The Next Chapter” for Thunder Road Films, a feature follow-up to Taylor Sheridan‘s Neo-Western, that boasts a cast featuring Martin Sensmeier, Gil Birmingham, Jason Clarke, Scott Eastwood, Chaske Spencer, Alan Ruck, Kali Reis, and Tatanka Means. We’re still waiting to hear about a release date with that one, despite wrapping production back in 2023.

Skarsgård, of course, is coming off a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination after working with Dakota’s younger sister, Elle Fanning, in “Sentimental Value.” The acclaimed Swedish actor, the patriarch of an electric acting family, has previously graced the small screen in Emmy-winning projects such as the HBO miniseries “Chernobyl” and two seasons of Lucasfilm‘s “Andor.” He’ll be playing the head of the international conglomerate that is being investigated.

This role isn’t all that surprising for Fanning after the actress played a C.I.A. agent alongside Denzel Washington in “The Equalizer 3,” the two reuniting after working on the remake of “Man on Fire” for director Tony Scott.

Cary and Skogland are set to executive produce the show alongside Fanning, Julie Gardner (“Lady in the Lake,” “Doctor Who”) for Bad Wolf America, and Brittany Kahan Ward of Lewellen Pictures (“Margo’s Got Money Troubles”). What other actors will be added to the call sheet for the high-profile project will likely be announced in the coming weeks/months.
