‘Masters Of The Universe’ Final Trailer: Director Travis Knight Brings Eterina & He-Man To Life On June 5

Legends aren’t born, they’re forged! “Masters of the Universe” is the latest big live-action studio film from director Travis Knight, who gave audiences one of the best critically received “Transformers” films, the ‘80s-set spinoff “Bumblebee,” and a new trailer has made its way to us to share.

After some overwhelmingly positive early reactions to the Amazon MGM Studios film from the other day, it sounds like the studio might have a crowd-pleaser on its hands and, in theory, might allow them to flesh out this universe with sequels and spinoffs from Mattel Studios (“Barbie”).

Nicholas Galitzine leads a cast that also includes Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, Kristen Wiig, Jared Leto, and Idris Elba.

From the footage, it looks like the movie is taking fun comedic cues from “Flash Gordon” and “Thor: Ragnarok,” which feels like the right approach. We’re sure a deadly serious take on this cartoon/toyline IP wouldn’t have gelled with audiences, given the goofy character designs (which Knight and department heads are embracing).

This potential success could bode well for the gestating Prime Video live-action “She-Ra” series, which is connected to the “Masters of the Universe.” That one has Heidi Schreck set to write, and Nicole Kassell (“Watchmen,” “The Killing,” “The Americans”) attached to direct.

An official logline for “Masters of the Universe” from Amazon MGM Studios:

Director Travis Knight brings the legendary franchise back to the big screen in this epic live-action adventure. After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Galitzine) back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.

With that, you can view the film’s final trailer below, as “Masters of the Universe” heads to theaters on June 5. We’ll be curious to see whether the general audience will embrace this version over the Dolph Lundgren iteration from the 1980s, which mostly struggled because it wasn’t closer to the source material and faced budget limitations.
