Tig Notaro Writing Old-Timey “Hot Lesbian Action” Movie With Zack Snyder Called ‘Deviants’ After Working Together On ‘Army Of The Dead’

You might remember that comedic actress/stand-up Tig Notaro (“Zootopia 2,” “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy”) stepped in last minute to replace fellow comedian Chris D’Elia (removed from the movie entirely in the wake of allegations sexual abuse and misconduct) on Zack Snyder‘s “Army of the Dead,” playing a surly helicopter pilot named Marianne Peters. It sounds like the two will be potentially reuniting for quite an interesting project, a period lesbian action flick where everyone is just “hot” called “Deviants.”

Notaro revealed the tantalizing feature project and that she is co-writing a script with Snyder during a chat with Kara Swisher on the podcast “On with Kara Swisher” after bringing up the viral reaction and compliments to her role as Peters in the Netflix zombie actioner.

“I go viral for being sexy in [‘Army of the Dead’]. And it was so unexpected. My phone’s exploding. I’m not walking around going ‘Oh my God,’ you know, ‘Check me out.’ I was so confused. So I called Zack, and I said, ‘I’m hearing it from straight men, gay men, gay women, and straight women that they think I’m hot in this movie.'”

That spectrum of audience reaction gave Notaro the idea to develop her own “hot lesbian action” film with Snyder seemingly quick to attach himself, “‘What if we just went for it and everyone’s a hot lesbian?’ He was like, ‘Oh my God, yes, let’s make that movie.’ And so who knows? It’s a Hollywood project. We’re in the process of putting the script together. Picture this poster: We have the name of the film, and then it says ‘Hot Lesbian Action.’ That’s how I sold him on the Zoom.” Notaro also dished some details and title, “As of now, the movie is called ‘Deviants,’ and takes place back in some old-timey days, like some closeted deviants.”

Speaking of “Army of the Dead,” the would-be franchise had a second installment in the works with Snyder expected to return to direct “Planet of the Dead.” Only for those ambitious plans to be seemingly scrapped entirely after the super-pricey two-part installment of “Rebel Moon” didn’t exactly get the amount of eyeballs Netflix was hoping.

That said, we’re all on board for whatever Nortaro wants to do with “Deviants,” as it sounds like the kind of project we all need in our lives. You can listen to that full exchange between Notaro and Swisher in that podcast episode below.
