‘Bait’ First Look Clip: Riz Ahmed’s New Comedy Series On Prime Sees Him Playing A Struggling Actor Landing A James Bond Audition

Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”) has been quite a busy fella and has a new Prime Video series on the way this March as he plays a struggling actor in “Bait,” and in a new first-look clip released by the streaming service sees his character, Sha Latif, landing an audition to play the James Bond role, which invokes quite the reaction from his loved ones.

The show’s supporting cast includes Guz Khan (“Man Like Mobeen,” “Four Weddings & A Funeral”) as Zulfi, Sheeba Chaddha (“Badhaai Do,” “Songs of Paradise”) as Tahira, Sajid Hasan (“Dhoop Kinare,” “Bandish”) as Parvez, Aasiya Shah (“Raised By Wolves,” “We Might Regret This”) as Q, Weruche Opia (“I May Destroy You,” “Sliced”) as Felicia, and Ritu Arya (“The Umbrella Academy,” “Barbie”) as Yasmin.

An official synopsis for “Bait” via Prime:

“Bait” stars Ahmed as Shah Latif, a struggling actor, whose last chance to hit it big comes in the form of an audition of a lifetime. The series follows him over the course of four wild days as his life spirals out of control and his family, ex-lover, and the entire world weigh in on whether he is the right man for the job.

The joke here is quite meta, as there was a moment when the internet wanted Riz Ahmed to step into the shoes of Daniel Craig once he retired the James Bond role (Amazon MGM Studios now overseeing and producing the billion-dollar franchise). Well, while Ahmed would be an excellent choice, it sounds like the team casting the project is reportedly aiming to hire a “fresh face” in a longtime tradition of finding actors that will become synonymous with Bond, rather than playing around in multiple franchises.

“Bait” is executive produced by Ahmed and Allie Moore for Left Handed Films, alongside Jake Fuller on behalf of Jax Media. Ben Karlin (“The Daily Show”) also executive-produces and serves as showrunner alongside Ahmed.
