‘God Of War’ Series At Prime Rounds Out Cast With Thor’s Children Thrúd, Magni & Modi

Production on Prime Video‘s “God of War” live-action series is underway in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and the streamer has announced that they’ve rounded out the Norse mythology show’s cast by casting Thor’s children and a key cohort of Kratos’ young son, Atreus.

Those names announced by Amazon from today’s casting update include Louis Cunningham as Modi, Ben Chapple as Magni, Evelyn Miller as Gna, and Island Austin as Thrúd (Thor’s daughter, who ends up wielding Mjölnir). If you’re not familiar with the two PlayStation games, Modi and Magni are the bruiser sons of Thor who have a relationship with the show’s villain, Balder, with their own powerful weapons and bad attitudes to match.

These new additions join a cast that already features Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Callum Vinson as Atreus, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.

Also, director Frederick E.O. Toye is set to helm the show’s first two episodes after tackling episodes of “Shōgun,” “The Boys,” and “Fallout.” We couldn’t think of a better person to explore this world in live-action.

An official logline for the upcoming video game show via Prime:

“God of War” follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.

The project, headed up by showrunner Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica”), already has a two-season order and is expected to explore both games, concluding with the events of the most recent video game, “God of War: Ragnarok” (you can maybe guess what happens by the title alone). In this version of the Norse myths, we see deeply flawed iterations of the Æsir gods, with Thor being more of a hot-headed drunk than audiences may be used to; his sons aren’t much nicer.

We’re still waiting on who is playing Atreus’ mother, Faye, who was portrayed by “Daredevil: Born Again” actress Deborah Ann Woll in the game. Then again, we wouldn’t be all that surprised if Woll ends up reprising the part.
