The next comedy movie from Judd Apatow and Universal Pictures has enlisted “Outer Banks” actress Madelyn Cline, as she’ll be joining Glen Powell (“The Running Man”) and Cristin Milioti (“Palm Springs”), who were previously announced for the film.
This casting update hails from Deadline, as the original film will see Powell playing a country music singer in “free-fall,” which is a pretty decent pitch for a comedy, and Cline is said to be playing a pop star in it after they had been seeking an established singer for the role. Powell, who was previously behind the “Hitman” script he penned with director Richard Linklater, co-wrote the untitled comedy pic with Judd Apatow, as the filmmaker is well-known for working creatively with actors on his films.

Projects from the past, such as Amy Schumer‘s “Trainwreck” and Pete Davidson‘s “The King of Staten Island,” are great examples of that sort of collaboration with talent, and this will be Apatow’s first scripted attempt since the Netflix meta pandemic Hollywood comedy “The Bubble.”
Apatow has been behind a string of comedy documentaries, as his next one will be “Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story” after being involved in previous ones focusing on Gary Shandling, George Carlin, and this week will see the debut of his HBO Max doc “Mel Brooks The 99 Year Old Man!”
The funny man is also gearing up for another collaborative film project with on-the-rise stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser (recently hosted the Golden Globes ceremony), who admittedly was once a family babysitter for the Apatows in the 2000s.
Universal has already slotted the Judd Apatow country music comedy for a release on February 5, 2027, as we imagine more names will be added to the cast in the coming weeks.
