‘Mayor Of Kingstown’: Taylor Sheridan Prison Drama Starring Jeremy Renner & Edie Falco Officially Ending With Fifth Season

Well, with Taylor Sheridan‘s new TV development deal at NBCUniversal, we were expecting some of his Paramount+ shows to start tapering off, and that has been confirmed in a way with the ending of “Mayor of Kingstown,” as we’ve learned today that the show is getting a fifth season, which will be its last after debuting back in the fall of 2021.

That’s not all, as stars Jeremy Renner and Edie Falco will also be returning for that final season, which is officially set for an eight-episode run.

The executive producer team on “Mayor of Kingstown” features Sheridan, Hugh Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson, Christoph Schrewe, Wendy Riss, Evan Perazzo, and Keith Cox. Erickson is serving as the showrunner for the series (co-created by Sheridan and Dillon), which is also produced by Paramount Television Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions.

It’s a little unclear what this means for the future of the other Sheridan shows, as two new “Yellowstone” spinoffs, “Y: Marshals” and “The Dutton Ranch” (featuring Beth and Rip), are just about to launch their first seasons. There had also been some reported trouble with the “King of Tusla being without a showrunner for its fourth season after some creative dust-ups behind the scenes. We’re in the dark about how involved Sheridan will actually be with these established television projects moving forward.

What was a tad perplexing about David Ellison/Paramount Skydance not extending their television deal with Sheridan, is that he was then recruited to help pen their newly announced live-action “Call of Duty” movie (a smart move after his two “Sicario” films and his series “Lioness” being inline tone-wise) based on the mega-popular military first-person shooter video game with Peter Berg attached to drect (we have to assume a role is being sought for longtime pal Mark Wahlberg). Perhaps, Ellison and Sheridan see a brighter future together in the film division rather than with TV.
