Actress Jessica Henwick was part of Netflix’s Marvel TV era, playing Colleen Wing in “Iron Fist.” By the end of the show’s final season, Colleen—one half of the “Daughters of the Dragon” duo, which nearly got its own spinoff—had inherited the Iron Fist mantle, becoming a new, female version of Marvel’s mystical martial-arts hero with chi-based powers. Ever since, fans have hoped Henwick might reprise the role in “Daredevil: Born Again,” especially as Marvel continues folding Netflix-era characters back into the MCU series, most recently with Krysten Ritter returning as Jessica Jones.
However, speaking with THR to promote her latest feature film, “How To Make A Killing,” Henwick downplayed her involvement in the upcoming second season of Marvel’s revival series “Daredevil: Born Again,” despite confirming a visit to the set.
“I’m not on ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ I did, however, go and hang out on set, and I had a great time. I can say that the new season is going to be incredible. It’s incredible. Seeing Charlie [Cox] in the suit was so nostalgic and fun. He’s just so perfect in that role. What a great guy, what a great show. I’m really excited for the fans. They’re going to be happy. And fans of the Netflix shows will be very happy,” the actress said of her MCU status.
You may not remember this, but Jessica Henwick was once in contention for a major MCU role before Marvel’s Netflix shows were folded into official canon. She was considered for Xu Xialing in Destin Daniel Cretton’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” a part that ultimately went to Meng’er Zhang, while Henwick instead joined “The Matrix Resurrections” as Bugs.
As for what’s next, Henwick says she has no updates on Drew Goddard’s “Matrix 5,” including whether her character might return. By her account, she hasn’t seen a script and doesn’t even know if the project is actively moving forward, adding that she’s basically waiting to hear if something lands with her agency. She also pours cold water on rumors of a potential “Matrix” TV series featuring Bugs.
“Yeah, there’s always these rumors about my character, but I don’t know where that came from. No one spoke to me about it. I know that Drew Goddard was developing a film. I’ve not heard anything in years. I don’t know if that’s still happening. I’d love to read it. I have asked my agents to send it to me when it starts floating around. But I didn’t hear anything about a TV series. I don’t know if they’re planning that at all,” Henwick shared.
Other projects on the horizon for Henwick include her pairing with Leo Woodall in Netflix’s upcoming series “Vladimir” and the StudioCanal dating flick “Everyone Wants To Fu*k Me,” which co-stars Taron Egerton. The aforementioned “How To Make A Killing” is currently in theaters, with Glen Powell leading the latest A24 release.
