‘Hot Mother’: Toni Collette & Milly Alcock Tapped For Mother-Daughter Spa Surivial Thriller

Australian actresses Toni Collette and Milly Alcock have been enlisted to lead a spa survival thriller entitled “Hot Mother,” which is expected to begin shooting early next year in the land down under and will be the feature debut of Kiwi director Lucy Knox.

This new iteration will be a feature-length adaptation of Knox’s own short film of the same name, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival back in 2020. While the title of “Hot Mother” is likely referring to the thriller’s main plot beat, as our mother and daughter characters, who have a fraught relationship, end up trapped in a sauna without anyone around to hear their desperate pleas for rescue.

That logline for “Hot Mother,” as mentioned in Deadline’s report, reveals the gist of the new project bound to shoot in Australia:

A mother and daughter visit a remote wellness spa for the weekend in an attempt to reconnect. But their time together quickly turns into a physical and psychological fight for survival when they get trapped in a sauna where no one can hear their cries for help.

Bankside Films is tackling worldwide sales for “Hot Monther” and co-repping North American rights with CAA Media Finance as the pic heads to buyers at this week’s American Film Market (the yearly film sales event). Sarah Shaw and Anna McLeish for Carver Films and recent Oscar-winner Alex Coco (“Anora”) for Rapt Films are set as the film’s producers.

Alcock ended up becoming a bit of a breakout sensention in HBO‘s “Game of Thrones” spinoff “House of the Dragon” leading to her high-profile casting as the DCU’s Supergirl, first appearing in James Gunn‘s “Superman” last summer in a brief cameo and will return to the big screen in her own solo adventure for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” on June 26, 2026, with expectations she’ll be part of the superhero lineup in Gunn’s follow-up “Man of Tomorrow” (where Clark and Lex Luthor team-up to fight a greater threat to the planet).
