Andrew Garfield Reflects On Being Asked About Spider-Man Return Until He’s 90: “Going To Follow Me For The Rest Of My Life”

Many still think that actor Andrew Garfield is holding back a grand return to the Peter Parker/Spider-Man role, at some point, in the future. However, he’s previously poured cold water on the idea of The Amazing Spider-Man 3” being resurrected by Sony Pictures (an internet rumor from fan circles that was seemingly based on his supporting part in “Spider-Man: No Way Home“), and a miraculous return to the MCU for something like “Avengers: Doomsday.” However, the actor grasps that the Spidey role will follow him for the rest of his life (not unlike what we’ve seen with James Bond actors).

Garfield recently spoke with Heart to promote his new fantasy movie “The Magic Faraway Tree,” and joked about his acting legacy being forever connected to Spider-Man, even into his 90s, where he believes he’ll still be asked about his return to the movies and teased future use of AI (a cheeky nod to Garfield is playing OpenAI‘s Sam Altman in Luca Guadagnino‘s “Artificial“?)

“I think it’s a question that’s probably going to follow me for the rest of my life, ‘Are you secretly in the new Spider-Man film?’…Until I’m 90 years old, they’re going to be asking me, ‘Are you in the new Spider-Man Volume 512? I’ll be like, ‘I’m literally weeing into a colostomy bag, and I don’t have any’…But also, people can ask me whatever they want; my life is very blessed.”

Of course, this sentiment stems from Garfield denying up and down that he wouldn’t be in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” only for the actor to apologize for lying to fans to help keep the secret from audiences. Ultimately, we don’t really know for sure if Garfield will suit up again, but he sounds aware that he cannot shake off the interest even when he’s toward the end of his life.

Will The Parkers return for something like the Multiverse event flick “Avengers: Secret Wars“? Maybe, but there doesn’t really seem to be a need to rehash a gimmick that Marvel/Sony already exercised, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely off the table, as recycling ideas over and over into the ground has become a growing problem with the genre.
