Last month at CinemaCon, we were shocked to learn that Paramount Pictures would be resurrecting the “World War Z” sequel after the project, which once had David Fincher attached to direct, fizzled out. There are now comments from one of Brad Pitt’s co-stars about the news and whether they’ll return for the zombie actioner.
“For All Mankind” actress Mireille Enos, who played Pitt’s wife in the pic and a fellow survivor of the global zombie outbreak, spoke to ScreenRant, sharing her impressions of the sequel and whether she’ll return, after previous iterations featured her character participating.

“There have been different versions, hopeful versions, over these past 15 years. So we’ll see. The past conversations about a second ‘World War Z’ did include my character, but I have no official information at this time,” Enos said in a very diplomatic manner about her status for the sequel.
The original “World War Z,” based on the Max Brooks (son of comedy icon Mel Brooks) novel, took a more grounded approach to the idea of a global outbreak of a virus that turns people into zombies. But the movie had some issues and hiccups during production, leading to a budget of around $190 million, but it went on to earn $540 million at the global box office, signaling to the studio that audiences were willing to support a second installment.
Pitt’s character was able to figure out that the zombie virus needed a “healthy host” after watching a young child with cancer being completely ignored by a rabid horde. It combated the outbreak by giving the surviving human population a minor illness to stave off the zombie threat. How they’ll tackle the sequel’s story remains to be seen, but the virus evolving and coming back wouldn’t be hard to imagine.
We’re still waiting on more details on the “World War Z” sequel and who will ultimately direct the pic after losing Fincher. Interestingly enough, Pitt and Fincher would eventually reunite for Netflix’s upcoming “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” which has a script penned by Quentin Tarantino.
