Cristian Mungiu‘s “Fjord” recently walked away with the biggest award at the Cannes Film Festival, as the Norway-set family resettling drama starring Sebastian Stan (“The Apprentice”) and Renate Reinsve (“Sentimental Value”) earned the coveted Palme d’Or for the filmmaker. Instantly, the award makes it one of many films to keep an eye on when the Oscar nominations and statues are handed out next year.
With that, two clips from ‘Fjord” have made their way online and should give audiences a glimpse of what they can expect from the upcoming NEON film. The distributor will be releasing it in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, while French outfit Goodfellas is handling other international territories, as we wait for an official release date.

An official synopsis for the acclaimed drama:
“The Gheorghius, a devout Romanian Norwegian couple, resettle in a village set in a distant fjord where they become close to their neighbours, the Halbergs. Their children bond despite their different education. When adolescent Elia Gheorghiu shows up at school with some bruises on her body, the community asks itself if the traditional education that the Gheorghiu children get from their parents might have anything to do with it.”
While a date is unknown for the moment, we’re expecting “Fjord” to be in theaters before the end of the year, and we speculate that a teaser trailer is just around the corner. As part of our in-depth Cannes coverage, The Playlist reviewed the film alongside a slew of other offerings from the French festival. Those aforementioned new clips (posted by The Upcoming) can be watched below.
