When “Flesh of the Gods” was first announced in 2024, an 1980s vampire thriller set in Los Angeles from “Mandy” director Panos Cosmatos that has a script from veteran screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (“The Killer,” “Se7en,” “Psycho Killer”) with actors such as Kristen Stewart (“Love Lies Bleeding”), Oscar Isaac (“Frankenstein”), and Elizabeth Olsen (“Eternity”) assembled to star in lead roles, it felt like a no-brainer that it would end up an awesome genre project that should be quickly rushed into production given the demanding schedules of the film’s high-profile main cast.
Sadly, there is a minor status update of sorts in a new interview with Stewart at IndieWire, where they reveal that not only hasn’t “Flesh of the Gods” started filming, but it is still “looking for financing” before cameras begin to roll.

Here is the film’s original logline:
In glittering 80s LA, married couple Raoul (Isaac) and Alex (Stewart) descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm of 80s Los Angeles. When they cross paths with the mysterious and enigmatic Nameless (Olsen) and her hard-partying cabal, Raoul and Alex are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills, and violence.
Another project in development from Cosmatos was the sci-fi fantasy flick “Nekrokosm,” which was being set up at XYZ Films and A24, with the Italian-Canadian filmmaker co-writing the script with Maegan Houang (“Counterpart”) that was previously described as a “phantasmagorical fantasy nightmare and set deep within a strange galaxy where two lovers are torn apart as they try to survive a malevolent invasion.”
This would suggest they’re still searching for funding/studio partners despite the XYZ Films project heading to the Cannes Film Market earlier in the year. Given A24’s recent collaboration with Cosmatos/XYZ on “Nekrokosm,” maybe the two can reach a deal for “Flesh of the Gods,” as the vampire thriller would certainly fit nicely with the distributor’s brand for mature genre projects.
