Despite some recent shakeups to Paramount Skydance‘s hostile bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery (in the wake of the announced deal with Netflix to buy the legacy media company), including removing Jared Kushner‘s involvement (The son-in-law of President Trump, adding a major conflict of interest to government regulatory process) and adding Oracle‘s Larry Ellison (The billionaire son of David Ellison, and a well-known Trump donor) officially to the mix instead, it seemed like just replacing one conflict of interest with another.
Well, according to a new update from Bloomberg, it doesn’t sound like the Warner Bros. Discovery board is going to humor this attempt either (after rejecting the previous offers that saw the involvement of Kushner alongside investment commitments from the Saudis, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi), as they’re said to be looking to reject this latest offer from The Ellisons’ Skydance Paramount when the board is set to meet again, next week.

There had been a spotlight on Paramount Skydance’s nefarious effort to gain control of CNN after Trump telegraphed his desire to see new, friendlier oversight of the news outlet that often holds his government accountable and asks him tough questions. This comes after the Ellisons’ overhaul of CBS News with controversial EIC selection Bari Weiss (an opinion columnist with little newsroom experience, who founded The Free Press, which Ellison bought out before the CBS News appointment).
Weiss’ brief handling of the newsroom is already taking heat for trying to delay/kill a “60 Minutes” story (called a “political” move) about the Trump administration using taxpayer dollars to illegally send hundreds of Venezuelan immigrant/migrant residents to an infamous gulag, CECOT, in El Salvador, to be knowingly be tortured (the report that leaked in Canada from Global TV claiming that only 3% of those detainees even had major criminal records when sent to the brutal prison).
The Trump and Ellison families intermingling like this isn’t exactly good for either the entertainment or news industries, and it’s a little shocking that they thought they could so simply gobble up Warner Bros. Discovery despite the multiple rejections and obvious conflicts of interest going on here. Then again, these people aren’t exactly known for taking “no” for an answer, Trump being alleged to have sexually assaulted more than a dozen women (the E. Jean Carroll civil lawsuit establishing in court and by the judge that Trump had raped the journalist), and he is consistently showing up in the millions of documents of The Epstein Files (may end up revealing evidence of the President’s possible sex crimes with children). The two attempting to control national news narratives isn’t a great sign of having the best intentions for this hostile takeover.
So, maybe we should be grateful that the WBD board, for the moment, doesn’t want any part of the Ellisons.
