‘John Doe’: Jason Statham & David Ayer Reuniting For Amnesia Action-Thriller From ‘Avengers’ Screenwriter

After working together on “The Beekeeper” and “A Working Man,” director David Ayer and British action star Jason Statham are reuniting for their third feature film, “John Doe,” which hails from a script written by Zak Penn (“The Avengers,” “Ready Player One”).

The report from Deadline reveals the action thriller’s tantalizing synopsis as Statham plays “a man with no memory, no past, and no name, and only one face he can’t forget: Eliza. As fragments of his identity return, he discovers he was trained for a mission still in motion and is being hunted by the very people who sent him. With enemies closing in, John must choose between finishing what he started…or protecting the one thing that makes him feel human: love.”

Statham is currently filming Guy Ritchie‘s gangster flick “Viva La Madness,” based on the sequel novel to the Daniel Craig-led movie “Layer Cake,” and is linking up with his “Hobbs & Shaw” director David Leitch on the meta-action-comedy “Statham Stole My Bike.”

Last year, Ayer shot Paramount Pictures‘ action-adventure pic “Heart of the Beast” that pairs Oscar winners Brad Pitt and J.K. Simmons.

Miramax is producing and financing alongside Statham, producing through his banner Punch Palace Productions. Paul Schiff and Penn are also named as producers. With production expected to begin in September, production partner Black Bear will be handling international sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Market and is set to kick off next month in proximity to the Cannes Film Festival.

Black Bear and Miramax previously worked together on those aforementioned Ayer/Statham projects, and the former was also behind his recent thriller “Shelter,” helmed by Ric Roman.
