Thankfully, fans of the Marvel Television series “Daredevil: Born Again” aren’t being kept in the dark about the MCU show’s future as Season 3 is currently in production (actors Mike Colter and Finn Jones were spotted alongside Krysten Ritter on set, telegraphing that a “Defenders” reunion is on the horizon), however, it sounds like star Charlie Cox believes there could be decades worth of work ahead thanks to the comic book source material that the show writers can pull from for years to come.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz during the recording of a live episode of his fantastic industry podcast “Happy Sad Confused,” Cox revealed a recent comic is giving him hope there could a very long future with the Daredevil character, which should make fans of the show hopeful of more seasons beyond the established third one (we assume Season 4-5 is a strong possiblity given how quickly they’re shooting these episodes).
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Cox said slyly when directly asked about those aforementioned set photos. He would go on to ruminate on the “big picture” of Murdock’s overall future in the next 5-10 years. “Charles Soule, who is a wonderful comic book writer, just released last year, I think, a new ‘Daredevil’ run that is called ‘A Cold Day In Hell‘ in which Matt Murdock, I think, is in his late 60s, early 70s. And Charles sent it to me, and I read it, and it’s so wonderful, it’s beautiful. But I was like, ‘Well, there you go, that buys me another twenty years.'”

Cox also briefly sidestepped the hint of a long-rumored Daredevil crossover with Tom Holland‘s Spidey (his second time after a previous denial about showing up in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” despite the involvement of both Frank Castle and The Hand along with Murdock’s minor “No Way Home” cameo) or his potential participation with The Russos‘ mega-crossover event films “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Alluding to the current plans for Matt Murdock is to stay on the small screen, which may or may not be true (we’ll have to take Cox at his word until proven otherwise).
“I mean, yes, Marvel have been kind of clear with me, for now at least, that I’m focusing on the show, that’s our focus,” Cox said of his big screen crossover possibilities. “That’s really the truth [smiles and laughs]…It’s one of the things, obviously, that the fans of the MCU love it when the characters sort of clash, so we’ll see.”
How exactly Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (alongside others from the show) will be incorporated into the greater MCU remains a bit of a mystery for the moment. With chatter of an MCU-wide “reboot/reset” after “Secret Wars,” we’re a tad unsure what that could potentially mean for these Disney+ characters and Daredevil’s future.
You can watch/listen to that full exchange between Cox and Horowitz below. New episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2 are exclusively streaming on Disney+ if you haven’t already caught up with the new iteration of the series.
