Just this morning, we learned about a new “Far Cry” series at Hulu, and now Netflix has announced they’ve secured an actor to lead their own video game television show adaptation with the small screen iteration of “Assassin’s Creed,” another Ubisoft game getting the TV treatment.
Netflix revealsed officially that actor Toby Wallace has been cast as a series regular in “Assassin’s Creed,” which is coming from showrunners Roberto Patino (“DMZ,” “Westworld,” “Sons of Anarchy”) and David Wiener (“Halo,” “Homecoming,” “The Killing”), who are overseeing the first major live-action entry in Netflix’s new partnership with the folks over at Ubisoft.

The on-the-rise Aussie actor’s recent feature credits include “Babyteeth,” “Finestkind,” “The Royal Hotel,” “The Bikeriders,” and “Eden.”
How Netflix describes the gestating sci-fi action series:
“Assassin’s Creed” will be a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, the other fighting to preserve free will. The series will follow its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.
The streaming platform seems to be tailored for these various series versions of video game properties, as “Fallout” and “Twisted Metal” have been able to find an audience and while Netflix’s “The Witcher” is based on fantasy novels, its popularity has a lot to do with the string of mature video game releases. Hopefully, the TV take on “Assassin’s Creed” does better with audiences than Justin Kurzel‘s feature film from 2016 that starred Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
We have to assume that more key casting announcements for the show are on the way. Stay tuned as they come in.
