David Lynch’s Daughter Jennifer Lynch Says Scripts From L.A.-Set Mystery Series ‘Unrecorded Night’ May End Up Being “Published”

Many are still grieving after the passing of filmmaker David Lynch last year, but there is now a sign that some of his unreleased material might be made available to the public, specifically, Lynch’s unmade series project “Unrecorded Night” (coming off “Twin Peaks: The Return,” a continuation of his landmark show “Twin Peaks”)

Lynch’s daughter, Jennifer Lynch, has taken to Reddit to reveal the family’s intention to “publish” his scripts for “Unrecorded Night.” That said, it remains to be seen whether that means it’ll be released as an analog-printed book/script that ends up in stores or as a more accessible digital version.

“‘Unrecorded Night’ scripts are likely to be published by myself and my siblings as a way to offer what could not be realized to those who would have loved, Lynch posted on Reddit this week. “I beg everyone to wait for this release and not hunt down what will likely be unauthorized versions and would soil the beautiful work Dad created. Like many millions of people, we are great fans of our father’s work and wish to see it shared and celebrated in every good way. We know there is a wanting, and we feel the need to fulfill Dad’s gifts as best as possible,”

It had previously been revealed that “Unrecorded Night” (nearly made at Netflix) would be a “mystery” show set in Los Angeles and would, presumably, take a Neo-Noir tone (possibly surreal as well?), given Lynch’s other work. Not only that, but there was an aim to have longstanding collaborators such as Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, and Naomi Watts starring in it. Sadly, it ultimately didn’t come together, but fans of Lynch may end up getting their hands on the scripts and giving serious insight into the vision for unrealized streaming series.

The legacy of Mr. Lynch may continue if the family decides to publish or develop more of his unused/unfilmed writings. We’ll have to be patient to see whether other unrealized projects receive a similar treatment.
