‘Skyscraper Live’ Trailer: Latest Netflix Live Event On January 23 Sees Alex Honnold Free Climb The Taipei 101 Building

Netflix seemingly is embracing live TV events with various sporting events alongside somewhat gimmicky boxing matches (with professional boxer Anthony Joshua recently knocking out internet personality Jake Paul, creating a new meme in the process). Their latest offering streaming next week is “Skyscraper Live,” featuring rock climber Alex Honnold, of “Free Solo” fame, scaling the Taipei 101 building in Taiwan.

Free climbing can be dangerous as it gets (safety ropes are a thing for a reason, to prevent climbers from dying), but this sounds like an extreme level of danger for Honnold, given the 101 stories of the building he’s going to attempt to scale. It certainly feels like the draw here is potentially seeing Honnold falling to his death or causing himself serious injury, but we have to imagine that there have to be “some” safety precautions here, or very little room for mistakes.

A logline for the live event courtesy of Netflix:

It hails from showrunner Al Berman, with Joe DeMaio directing as the executive producer team consisting of Honnold, Berman, Grant Mansfield, James Smith, Alan Eyres, and Jonathan Retseck.
