With “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” debut on Sunday, there is already talk about what could be coming down the pipeline concerning a replacement/reworking for the Jon Snow scrapped series that would have seen Kit Harington (has alluded he’s done with the role) reprise the beloved “Game of Thrones” character, who ultimately returned to Castle Black at the end of the mainline series after the defeat of the White Walkers and other events wrapping up that final season.
A tidbit coming out of a recent THR interview/profile of franchise creator and author George R.R. Martin has revealed that one of the potential reworkings for that Jon Snow spinoff (writer Quoc Dang Tran of “Drops of God” is reportedly tasked to help with reviving the spinoff, but it won’t focus on Jon Snow) could end up exploring the further adventures of Maisie Williams‘ Arya Stark by dropping the legacy character into a show focusing on the “Mediterranean-like land of Essos.” She is one of the Stark sisters who learns to become a skilled assassin, before enacting a plan of revenge and also defeats The Night King.

However, the outlet stresses this is “very early development,” given we’ve seen a good amount of “Thrones” spinoffs not make it to series order, and they’re probably right to be cautious about any spinoff show’s future. There is a reason why a lot of these projects aren’t even reaching the pilot stage, as previously HBO spent a good amount of coin on the “Bloodmoon” pilot (hailing from writer Jane Goldman and director SJ Clarkson) starring Aussie actress Naomi Watts, only for it to fall apart, which would have tackled the origin of the White Walkers.
Arya, unlike others at the end of the series, is looking to quest finding her own way in the world and leaves the shores of Westeros for new overseas adventures, which could open the door for exploration beyond places we’ve already seen and could help further flesh out the “Game of Thrones” lore and might allow for other legacy characters to show up in Essos down the line. Then again, we’ll see how much of a stomach HBO has for a continuation with a multitude of show options.
