“Moon Knight” fans have been dying to know when Oscar Isaac will reprise the supernatural/occult hero in the MCU. Still, with a second season of the Disney+ series unlikely, the actor has now given folks hope that the rumored “Mightson Sons” (the video game iteration called “Midnight Suns”) project might actually end up a reality.
During a recent appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast to promote Season 2 of “Beef,” the actor revealed that Marvel Studios is indeed considering something related to “Midnight Sons,” and is keen on the idea of Ryan Gosling (“Project Hail Mary”) playing the new MCU version ofGhost Rider after the actor started a campaign to play him.
“Yeah, yeah. There was an interesting talk of ‘Midnight Sons’ and, again, it’s very tonally its really important because we’re playing with real stuff with that one. It’s expressing something very real and challenging, difficult. So…you really gotta take it seriously,” Isaac said of the potential of the “Midnight Sons” project.
“Make it happen, fellas, it’s a no-brainer,” Isaac responded when asked about Gosling as Ghost Rider (potentially part of the crossover event’s lineup) and host Josh Horowitz mentioning “Blade” actor Mahersala Ali as part of the trio.
Johnny Blaze and his half-brother, Danny Ketch (another Ghost Rider), were indeed among the original “Midnight Sons” lineup alongside Blade, Hannibal King, Frank Drake, Morbius the Living Vampire, Doctor Strange, and others. But we don’t know exactly whether that will be a one-to-one with that comic and whether Marvel will ultimately make the solo “Blade” reboot with Mahershala Ali in the role or pivot to place him in “Midnight Sons” instead.
Fans will notice that Isaac’s Moon Knight isn’t one of the original characters in that storyline (appears in unofficial fan and official art by comic artist Greg Smallwood), and would be an MCU update of sorts. We would imagine that Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal), Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), and Man-Thing, introduced in “Werewolf By Night,” could be part of that hypothetical horror lineup, too.
