Sam Levinson’s ‘Euphoria’ Officially Ends With Season 3

Let’s not pretend to be entirely shocked by this ‘Euphoria” update, but over the weekend, HBO made it official that they won’t be pursuing a fourth season of the Sam Levinson-created series. That said, the final run of episodes felt like a miracle in itself, given the talented cast being busy with other high-profile projects and the scathing critical/audience reaction for Levinson’s other hyper-sexualized pop-star show, “The Idol.”

“In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me,” Levinson told Popcast (The New York Times’ pop culture show podcast), where he first revealed the show was over. Adding the show’s story is “a tragic one in the end, but it’s also the truth…If you are experimenting or taking drugs today, it’s very possible it’ll kill you.”

Of course, Zendaya led the talented group of young actors that also featured Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Austin Abrams, Storm Reid, Chloe Cherry, and Javon Walton. Others in the cast include the late Eric Dane, Martha Kelly, Alanna Ubach, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Colman Domingo.

Levinson went on to mention that it was meant to honor the late Angus Cloud, one of the original cast members of the show, who sadly and tragically died back in 2023 due to complications concerning his own substance use. That said, Season 3 wasn’t without its own controversy as many sex workers and adult models took a lot of issues with the incompetent representation of Cassie becoming an OnlyFans creator doing things that are restricted on the platform, including the super gross age-play.

This comes after the show’s Season 3 finale aired on Sunday, and word came quickly from HBO (via Variety) confirming that a renewal wouldn’t be in the cards for “Euphoria.”
