Over the weekend, it was announced by singer Billie Eilish that her secretive (first teased back in the summer) 3D concert film “Hit Me Hard & Soft: The Tour (Live In 3D)” directed by James Cameron, between making his “Avatar” sequels, would be coming to theaters on March 20, 2026, thanks to Paramount Pictures, which will be distributing the project in theaters.
Eilish revealed the big news from her official Instagram account, which included a new promotional photo of the pair together during what looks like a pause in the filming of the concert footage.

“This has been one of my favorite tours [ever] and being able to capture it and co-direct this film with James Cameron has truly been a dream come true. can’t wait for you all to see it,” Eilish stated in her social media post announcing the concert film’s theatrical release.
Cameron has always been noted as an innovator of technology and the biggest promoter of modern 3D cameras, so the thinking here is that “Hit Me Hard & Soft” should be yet another spectacle; however, it will be one of the director’s first big entries into the world of music. We’ll be curious to see if this ends up as one of many future concert films from Cameron or simply a one-off experience.
We don’t know where Cameron found the extra time to make this, as “Avatar: Fire & Ash” is heading to the big screen on December 19 (expected to be one of the biggest box office hits of the year). He’s also working on other potential directorial projects, including his fantasy actioner “The Devils,” is producing the thriller “Painter,” his Japanese-set WWII drama “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” has been developing a new “Terminator” project, and is still expected to complete work on “Avatar 4” (but that may or may not happen).
Given that Paramount has given “Hit Me Hard & Soft” that March date, a first-look teaser trailer for the film is likely just around the corner as we get our first glimpse of actual footage from the concert and what level of camera work they’re going for here.
