It’s starting to look like “Scream 8” is full steam ahead as Spyglass Media has found new screenwriters for their next installment after “Scream 7” writer/director Kevin Williamson declared last month he wouldn’t be coming back for the next release of the meta slasher franchise, which he created for director Wes Craven.
Instead of bringing back Williamson, according to a report from Deadline, they’ve landed on Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, aka The Zuckerman Sisters, to pen their script for “Scream 8,” the first big update since Williamson moving aside for new creatives.

Their writing experience includes being the showrunners for “Poker Face” and having worked on other TV projects such as “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Suits,” “Fringe,” and “Prodigal Son.”
This comes after the creative sibling duo had been tasked to write and then rewrite a pilot for a modern revival of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” which was ultimately nixed before getting a series order from Hulu/Disney Television. It had been seen as a high-profile TV project with Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland,” “Hamnet”) directing and had the participation of Sarah Michelle Gellar, who had been reluctant to get involved in the past.
Despite the multiple controversies surrounding “Scream 7,” including the public firing of franchise star Melissa Barrera over pro-Palestine posts, and pivoting to a Sidney Prescott-focused story (bringing back Neve Campbell after a pay dispute on “Scream VI“), the movie has done exceedingly well at the global box office, earning $329.3 million with a solid domestic opening of $63.6 million.
Williamson had hinted that “Scream 7” might have been the final outing for Sidney, so what exactly the direction of this next attempt is unclear. That said, Spyglass and Williamson had introduced fans to Sidney’s daughter, Tatum Evans (played by Isabel May), who may end up taking the reins from Campbell. Only time will tell if that is the exact angle they’ll go with on “Scream 8.”
