Surprise! Martin Scorsese has officially joined the world of “Star Wars” as the beloved and acclaimed American filmmaker has been spotted in the latest trailer for “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” as he’ll be voicing an Ardennian fry cook, a multi-armed alien that happens to be the same species that director Jon Favreau once played in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
That casting was confirmed by Lucasfilm and Disney (although Scorsese has a very distinct voice) on the franchise’s official “Star Wars” social media account. This comes after Scorsese has been a rather large critic of studio event films like the MCU films, so there must have been some wooing from Favreau to get the director to play a neat alien in the event film coming to theaters on May 22.

While Scorsese isn’t exactly known as an actor, he’s jumped in front of the camera from time to time, including his own films such as “Taxi Driver” and “Hugo.” He also recently played himself in Apple TV‘s Emmy-winning satirical Hollywood-set “The Studio,” where he was being enlisted to direct a faux “Kool-Aid” movie about the Jonestown Massacre.
It has a cast that also sees Pedro Pascal reprise the main role of Din Djarin with Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, and the live-action version of Zeb Orrelios, now a pilot in The New Republic.
An official logline for the first “Star Wars” theatrical film since December 2019:
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” is a continuation of the adventures established in the Disney+ series and is heading to the big screen in a couple of months. We’ll be interested to learn who else has roles in the film, as the studio has been quite secretive about the full cast.
