First-Look At Yahya Abdul-Mateen II In ‘Man On Fire’ Series Remake; Netflix’s ‘Beef’ S2 Debuts In April

Today, streaming giant Netflix has shared a bunch of first looks and release date information on a swath of upcoming original projects arriving on its app in 2026. On the television side of things, they’ve announced that the second season of A24‘s “Beef” will debut on April 16 with impressive cast consisting of Oscar Isaac (“Dune,” “Ex Machina,” “Inside Llewyn Davis”), Carey Mulligan (“Promising Young Woman,” “Maestro”), Charles Melton (“May December,” “Warfare”), Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla,” “Civil War,” “Alien: Romulus”), Academy Award–winner Yuh-Jung Youn (“Minari,” “Pachinko,” “The Wedding Banquet”), and Song Kang-ho (“Parasite,” “Memories of Murder”).

Season 2 of “Beef” will have eight 30-minute episodes, with Lee Sung Jin returning as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. The next season’s logline: “A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.”

That’s not it, as they’re also behind a small-screen adaptation of A. J. Quinnell‘s novel “Man of Fire,” which was previously turned into two feature films with Scott Glenn and Denzel Washington playing the bodyguard protagonist, Creasy, who goes on a mission of revenge when his young client is kidnapped by criminals. That original 1987 version focused on the Italian mob, while the remake helmed by the late Tony Scott had a group of kidnappers in Mexico being the bad guys. Brazil will be the next setting for this Netflix incarnation.

The streamer has thankfully shared a first-look still of Emmy-winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Wonder Man,” “Watchmen”) as this new version of Creasy for the Netflix series that sees “Creed II” director Steven Caple Jr. helming the first two episodes of the eight-episode first season. Billie Boullet and Bobby Cannavale also have roles in the action series hailing from writer/showrunner Kyle Killen (“Fear Street”) as they play Poe Rayburn and Paul Rayburn, respectively.

A brief synopsis for “Man of Fire” via Netflix: “Follows John Creasy, who was once a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary known for surviving even the most desolate situations. However, John is now battling extreme PTSD and personal demons. As he attempts a fresh start, he’ll find himself back in the (metaphorical) fire and fighting harder than ever.”
