‘Spider-Noir’ Showrunner Oren Uziel Teases Unannounced Spidey Variant Projects Are “In The Works”

With the Nicolas Cage-led streaming series “Spider-Noir” on the horizon and “Silk” reportedly being overhauled/scrapped at Prime Video, too, even more projects are said to be in development, as told by co-showrunner Oren Uziel.

Speaking with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar) in an upcoming issue, Uziel is promoting “Spider-Noir” and brings up that other projects are in the works with other variants. This should make fans super excited to hear that Sony is trying to get other projects going after the news that “Silk” might not be moving forward.

“I’m focused on ‘Spider-Noir,’ but I know there are others in the works,” Uziel said, teasing unnamed projects also being in the works. “I’ve talked a bit to the people working on them, and I think they are very exciting. They’re following a little bit of that same formula [as ‘Spider-Noir’], that same idea of taking a genre and elevating it by putting a Spider-variant into it. It opens up a whole new world, and it’s just an extremely exciting opportunity.”

While we don’t know what he could be talking about outside of “Silk,” there are plenty of options for them to explore, as the “Spider-Verse” has plenty of variants to select. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that “Spider-Man 2099” (Oscar Isaac plays Miguel O’Hara) is one of those options because a superhero project set in the cyberpunk genre (his version of Earth is littered with advanced technology) could be fun material to adapt to live-action.

In the animation space, there has been talk of a female-centric spinoff, another spinoff film featuring Daniel Kaluuya’sSpider-Punk,” and the highly anticipated “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse” is set to be released in theaters on June 18, 2027.

Cage leads a cast in the 1930s-set Marvel Comics series (Cage taking on a slightly altered version of his “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” role) that also features the talents of Brendan Gleeson (“Gangs of New York”) playing the gangland boss Silvermane, Li Jun Li (“Sinners”) as lounge singer Cat Hardy (will she be a variant of Fleicia Hardy/Black Cat?), Emmy-winner Lamorne Morris (“Fargo”) as established reporter Robbie Robertson (played by the late Bill Nunn in the Sam Raimi trilogy), Karen Rodriguez as Janet, and “Boardwalk Empire” alum actor Jack Huston in the role of a gangster version of Flint Marko, better known as supervillain Sandman.
