Most of the gang are getting back together for “Ocean’s 14” as the fourth installment is not only going see the return of George Clooney and Brad Pitt as their charming and scheming professional thieves looking for the next big score, but there is now word from Clooney himself that Matt Damon (“The Odyssey”), Julia Roberts (“After The Hunt”), and Don Cheadle (“No Sudden Move”) will be back, too.
Clooney dished about the new chapter being inspired by the 1979 “Going In Style,” a film about aging criminals, while speaking with Variety, still on the promotional tour for his latest film, “Jay Kelly.” Worth noting that by the time “Ocean’s 14” comes out in theaters, there will be 20 years between the release of “Ocean’s 13,” so Clooney’s take on everyone being older and losing a step in the criminal world attempting various heists isn’t exactly a surprising idea to have.

“There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me,” Clooney told Variety. “They’ve lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations.”
It is still uncertain if folks like Casey Affleck, Scott Caan (recently part of the cast of Pitt’s “The Adventures of Cliff Booth“), Elliott Gould, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and others will be showing up in the latest romp. The franchise has a habit of bringing back past villains, which could mean that Andy Garcia, Vincent Cassel, and Al Pacino, at the very least, may have cameos in the gestating crime capper.
That ’70s comedic film from writer/director Martin Brest (released by Warner Bros. and not to be confused with the 2015 remake) featured George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg (“The Godfather Part II”) as a trio of aging crooks looking for one more heist to relieve them of their boredom. Mind you, they’re much older than the cast of “Ocean’s 14” would be (although Gould and the late Carl Reiner weren’t exactly spring chickens).
What was interesting is that WB signed off on a budget back in the fall, which would mean they would have to have a director for “Ocean’s 14” already in place for a budget to even be established, but nobody is saying exactly who it is, and it could mean an announcement is just around the corner (could it be Clooney himself?).
The studio is pushing for an expansion of the franchise. Back in October, it was revealed that Bradley Cooper would be replacing Ryan Gosling on the untitled “Ocean’s” prequel film, starring opposite Margot Robbie, with Lee Isaac Chung (“Twisters”) being linked as a possible director last summer.
