Filmmaker Justine Triet had quite the awards season/festival impact with her previous effort “Antomony of A Fall” (earning the Palme d’Or at Cannes and the Best Original Screenplay Oscar), and her next project, “Fonda,” has landed some new names on the call sheet.
We’ve learned today that “Fonda” has officially added actors such as Odessa A’zion (“Marty Supreme”), Benedict Wong (“Weapons”), Cherry Jones (“Succession”), and Ewan Mitchell (“House of the Dragon,” “Weuthering Heights”). Filming is set to begin this month with a wrap date expected to take place sometime in June.
The brief logline for the new Triet project:
“A seemingly idyllic setting that takes audiences on a vertiginous dive into the shifting limits of a sound mind, as grief and obsession take hold.”
This new batch of in-demand talent joins a cast that already features Mia Goth (“Frankenstein), Oscar-winner Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”), Andrew Scott (“All of Us Strangers”), Frank Dillane (“Urchin”), and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (“Candyman”) after being announced earlier in the year.
That’s not it, as House Productions (“Conclave,” “The Zone of Interest”) and BBC Film have also joined the flick as co-producers with the fine folks over at StudioCanal (“Pressure”) and m2k Films (“The Secret Agent”) previously on board. The impressive producer team assembled for “Fonda” also consists of Marie-Ange Luciani from Les Films de Pierre and David Thion of Les Films Pelleas, alongside Belgian company Les Films du Fleuve (“Rosetta”), with producers Delphine Tomson, Jean-Pierre, and Luc Dardenne part of the group as well.
Speaking of mk2, they are set to handle international sales, as well as finance and co-produce, alongside StudioCanal’s Anna Marsh, Francois Mergier, and Assia Barge. Nathanaël Karmitz, Elisha Karmitz, and Fionnuala Jamison are also credited as producers on the project. StudioCanal will distribute “Fonda” theatrically in its own territories such as France, Germany, Italy, Benelux, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Fonda” is certainly a film project audiences should keep an eye on, as Triet is one of our great directors on the pulse of the times, and her movies have some of the sharpest dialogue you could expect, a combination that makes this a VERY exciting prospect.
