‘The Batman Part II’: Sebastian Stan In Talks For Mystery Role Opposite Robert Pattinson & Scarlett Johansson In Sequel

Coming off the casting news last year that Scarlett Johansson would be joining Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman Part II,” it has been announced that Sebastian Stan, best known for his role as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier and is the latest MCU alumni to join the DC Studios sequel, as he’s now in active talks.

We’re in the dark about Stan’s mysterious role in the sequel, as the report from Deadline doesn’t share details on who he’ll play in the Batman pic, but there has been a longstanding expectation that Harvey Dent (aka, Two-Face) or a more obscure villain (Hush/Red Hood/Holiday Killer/Hugo Strange?) that hasn’t been given a big screen treatement could be showing up in Gotham. However, without official word from WB/DC Studios/Reeves about who these two new additions are playing, we’re flying blind for the moment about their roles.

Stan was a supporting player in “Thunderbolts” (“The New Avengers“) and is expected to return to the Bucky role in “Avengers: Doomsday.” He’s also been doing a lot of recent character-driven work outside of the MCU with “A Different Man,” playing a pre-presidential version of Donald Trump in “The Apprentice,” and co-starred with Daisy Edgar-Jones in the horror pic “Fresh.”

While there had been fans bemoaning the extended development timeline, Reeves had been busy fleshing out his version of Gotham with Colin Farrell reprising Oz Cobb in HBO Max series “The Penguin.” So, you’d think they’d cut him a little slack for the extended delays. Farrell has suggested not too long ago he’d have a minor return in the sequel, while Reeves has ruled out having Cristin Milioti‘s Sofia Falcone make a comeback.
