You might remember that actress Julia Garner (“Weapons,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”) was once set to play Madonna in a biopic project that the Material Girl was going to be producing and creatively involved, however, it seems that won’t be happening but has morphed into a new meta plotline for the upcoming second season of Apple TV‘s “The Studio.”
In a report from Variety, the outlet has details on their addition to the acclaimed Hollywood-set series, where they are expected to cover the grueling audition process and Garner vying for that part, only for the movie to fall apart. Unsurprisingly, they were able to get more high-profile guest stars after Season 1 saw Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Ice Cube, Zoë Kravitz, Greta Lee, Dave Franco, Olivia Wilde, Sarah Polley, and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos shooting scenes for it.

Interestingly enough, the pair posted pics and video from a recent link-up in Venice, Italy (said to be where they’re filming scenes for “The Studio” that you can see below), and Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) was also featured in the Instagram post dancing with the pop star, which likely means the working actor/musician is in the mix as well for Season 2 or was simply in town to hang out on the set (it feels like the former is the reasoning).
This would also mark the first big acting part from Madonna since a guest appearance on “Will & Grace” back in 2003, and before that was the female lead in her ex-husband Guy Ritchie’s remake of “Swept Away.”
The Emmy-winning Hollywood-set series from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg is still trying to deal with the heartbreaking loss of cast member Catherine O’Hara, which they’ve said not too long ago that she was an “anchor” for “The Studio” and they’re sort of “anchorless” without the late comedian. So, we have to assume that having Garner and Madonna in the second season could be the boost of fun everyone needs.
We cannot wait to see what the creative team is cooking up with “The Studio,” as they’ve tried their best to tackle inside-baseball-level topics such as film acquisitions, dueling projects, AI, parties, what a studio executive actually does, promotion, and various film studio politics from concept to awards season.
