Accalimed Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar is back with his latest theatrical effort, “Bitter Christmas” (aka, “Amarga Navidad“), which has a cast that includes Bárbara Lennie, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Victoria Luengo, Patrick Criado, Milena Smit, and Quim Gutiérrez.
With that said, a new trailer for the upcoming project being distributed by Warner Bros. in Spain has made its way online, giving us the best look yet at “Bitter Christmas” (Sony Pictures Classics is handling the North America release, expected later in the year).

An official logline for the upcoming release:
“Follows Elsa, an advertising director whose mother dies during a long December holiday. She works non-stop and, without realizing, doesn’t give herself time to mourn her mother’s absence. After a crisis, Elsa decides to travel to the island of Lanzarote, accompanied by her friend Patricia, who also needs to get away from the city. The story of these characters run parallel to that of a screenwriter and film director, exploring how life and fiction are inseparably linked, sometimes painfully so.”
“Bitter Christmas” sees the director returning to a Spanish-language format after Almodóvar tackled his English debut with the 2024 pic “The Room Next Door,” starring Tilda Swinton, Julieanne Moore, John Turturro, and Alessandro Nivola.
Feel free to check out that new trailer for “Bitter Christmas” below, as the pic heads to Spanish cinemas on March 20. In the meantime, we’re still waiting on word from Sony Pictures Classics on when the new Almodóvar film could be making the rounds in North American theaters (Curzon set to handle distribution in the United Kingdom and Ireland)
