Quentin Dupieux, the French filmmaker and musician professionally known as Mr. Oizo, is returning with his latest feature film effort, “Full Phil,” and we can thankfully share a first look at what is being described as a “surreal dark comedy.”
The impressive cast assembled for “Full Phil” includes Kristen Stewart (“Love Lies Bleeding”), Woody Harrelson (“True Detective,” “Triangle of Sadness”), Charlotte Le Bon (“Fresh”), and Emma Mackey (“Ella McCay”). We are also expected to see the comedic duo of Tim Heidecker (“Him,” “Us”) and Eric Wareheim (“Wrong Cops”) in the pic. Harrelson and Stewart play an American father (a wealthy businessman) and daughter on an luxureous trip to Paris.
An official logline for the upcoming pic shared by StudioCanal:
Philip Doom, a wealthy American business magnate, tries to reconnect with his daughter Madeleine during an opulent trip to Paris. But French cuisine, a 1950s horror film, and an invasive hotel employee soon threaten to disrupt the smooth running of their stay.
Dupieux writes and directs the pic from Chi Fou Mi Productions, Artemis Productions, and Samsa Film. This comes as the movie, currently in production, is heading to the European Film Market this month (coinciding with the Berlin International Film Festival) as StudioCanal is handling the film’s international sales.
Of course, Stewart is coming off her feature directorial debut with Imogen Poots-led “The Chronology of Water” (aims to do more directing) and revealed her high-profile period vampire thriller “Flesh of the Gods” (from director Panos Cosmatos with Elizabeth Olsen and Oscar Isaac attached to co-star) was having trouble finding financing.
