We’re beyond thrilled that acclaimed Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite,” “Mickey 17”) is heading into the world of animation with his new film “Ally.” The project at NEON has enlisted a group of actors to lend their voices to the characters, aiming to release the film toward the end of 2027.
Those names joining the film include Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”), Bradley Cooper (“Nightmare Alley”), Dave Bautista (“Dune,” “The Guardians of the Galaxy”), Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”), Alex Jayne Go (“Pretzel and the Puppies”), and Rachel House (“Thor: Ragnarok”). They join previously announced veteran filmmaker Werner Herzog (“Andor,” “Jack Reacher”), according to a Variety report.

In the animated flick, as pointed out by the outlet, we follow Ally, “a curious and endearing piglet squid living in the uncharted depths of the South Pacific Ocean. She dreams of one day seeing the sun and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary. But when a mysterious aircraft sinks into the ocean, her peaceful world is suddenly thrown into danger. Alongside her loyal, yet unlikely companions, Ally is thrust into an extraordinary journey that will take her all the way to the surface.”
NEON had recently acquired the North American rights to “Ally” with CJ ENM, Penture Invest, and Pathé joining forces to co-finance and distribute in their respective markets.
A talented group is being assembled for the feature, co-written by the director and Jason Yu. We cannot wait to see how the film turns out (inspired by the book “The Deep: The Extraordinary Creatures of The Abyss” by French author Claire Nouvian), and as the filmmaker has hired composer Marco Beltrami (“The Wolverine,” “Underwater,” “Logan”) to provide a score for “Ally” along with an expectation to reunite with “Snowpiercer” and “Parasite” cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo (“Hope”).
