’13 Going On 30′: Emily Bader & Logan Lerman Topline Netflix Reboot For Director Brett Haley

The Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo romantic comedy “13 Going On 30” (helmed by the late Gary Winick) is easily a comfort film for many, and there is now an attempt to reboot the 2004 film at Netflix. They’ve selected their new main leads for it by casting Emily Bader (“My Lady Jane”) and Logan Lerman (“Only Murders In The Building”), as announced today on their official Instagram account.

Brett Haley, a seasoned go-to director for Netflix originals such as “All The Bright Places,” “All Together Now,” and “People We Meet On Vacation,” has been tasked to direct the new iteration of “13 Going On 30” with Garner set as the film’s executive producer (unclear if she’ll take a new role in the reboot or not).

While we’re in the dark about the new angle with the film (if any), “13 Going On 30” has a script penned by Hannah Marks (“Mark, Mary, & Some Other People”) with rewrites/revision work from Flora Greeson (“The Princess Diaries 3”).

In that original cherished film, “13-year-old Jenna Rink, wishing to be popular, magically transforms into her 30-year-old self (Garner) overnight. As a successful magazine editor, she realizes adulthood is complex, navigating lost friendships, workplace drama, and true love with her childhood friend, Matty (Ruffalo).” It also featured supporting cast members like Andy Serkis, Kathy Baker, Judy Greer, and future Oscar-winner Brie Larson, who had a small role as well.

Bader is reuniting with Haley after the two previously worked together on “People We Meet On Vacation.” Lerman, on the other hand, has a very extensive theatrical film career with projects like “The Perks of Being A Wallflower,” “Noah,” the “Percy Jackson” movies, “Gamer,” had a minor part in “Bullet Train,” and played a green soldier in the Brad Pitt-led WWII thriller “Fury.”

Who else they’ll get to star in the rom-com remains to be seen, but Bader and Lerman seem like appropriate selections from the jump for this new iteration of “13 Going On 30.”
