Director Simon Stone and StudioCanal are behind “Elsinore,” which sees Andrew Scott and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman leading the new feature that explores, as the film’s logline describes, the “inspiring true story of the actor Ian Charleson who faced incredible odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in ‘Hamlet” at the National Theatre in London.”
With cameras officially rolling on the pic, the rest of the cast was announced today. Those new additions to the drama’s call sheet include Billie Piper (“Wednesday,” “Doctor Who”), Johnny Flynn (“Emma”), Joe Locke (“Agatha All Along”), Peter Mullan (“Children of Men”), Monica Dolan, Juliet Stevenson, Adeel Akthar, Matthew Beard, David Dawson, Kadiff Kirwan, and Dickie Beau.

Piper is reuniting with Stone, director of “The Woman In Cabin 10” and “The Dig,” after the two worked together on the stage with the award-winning “Yerma” at the Young Vic.
“Elsinore” hails from a producer team assembled that features Andrea Occhipinti of Lucky Red (“Il Divo,” “Everybody Knows”), Gabrielle Tana of Magnolia Mae Films (“The Dig,” “Philomena”), along with Pete Shilaimon and Mickey Liddell of LD Entertainment (“Jackie,” “Anthropoid”), and Stefano Massenzi and Carolyn Marks Blackwood. Scott is also a producer on the pic with a script from screenwriter Stephen Beresford (exec produces alongside Ethan Silverman, who originated the project).
We’re still waiting on a release date for “Elsinore,” but once production/post is completed, there likely will be an announcement when it’ll be heading to theaters. Certainly an upcoming feature project to keep an eye on, given all the folks involved and exploring the world of British theater.
