Marvel’s ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ Starring Jon Bernthal Is Set To Arrive May 12 On Disney+

This morning, the fine folks at Marvel Television and Disney+ announced that “The Punisher: One Last Kill,” starring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, is officially set to debut on the streaming service in May, and they dropped a nifty teaser poster as well.

The full title of the project, said to have a runtime of around an hour, is “A Marvel Television Special Presentation: The Punisher: One Last Kill.” We’re hoping that mouthful of a title lands a minor trimming before it debuts, but that’s unlikely.

Reinaldo Marcus Green directed “One Last Kill” and co-wrote the MCU project with Bernthal; the two previously worked together on the HBO series “We Own This City” about crooked Baltimore cops. Also, Jason R. Moore is set to reprise the role of Curtis Hoyle after playing that role in the Netflix show, after being spotted on set last summer.

You might also remember that Green directed the “Bob Marley: One Love” about the late musical icon and the acclaimed sports biopic “King Richard,” which the latter earned Will Smith a Best Actor Oscar statue for his performance in the Best Picture nominee, at the controversial ceremony where the actor slapped comedian Chris Rock (after he took issue with a joke made at the expense of his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith).

Castle is also set to appear alongside Dr. Bruce Banner and Peter Parker in Sony‘s upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” this July, marking The Punisher’s first big screen appearance since Lexi Alexander‘s over-the-top R-rated “Punisher: War Zone” from 2008. Although in that film, we’re expecting a noticeably more family-friendly version given the PG-13 rating of that latest Spidey installment from director Destin Daniel Cretton compared to this Disney+ project.

We’re not entirely sure what the point of “The Punisher: One Last Kill” actually is; however, there is a minor possibility that Marvel/Disney is trying to gauge audience interest about a revival of the Netflix series (had two seasons before the show was nixed) or a new feature film could be some of the reasoning behind the one-off project.

With that said, Charlie Cox has confirmed this week that Bernthal/Castle won’t be showing up in Season 2 of “Daredevil: Born Again.”
