Well, it’s starting to look like the DCU Batman project “The Brave & The Bold” is finally getting into a better place in development stages, as the DC Studios‘ movie has landed a screenwriter after years without an update on a script.
The Hollywood Reporter is confirming a recent claim from journalist Jeff Sneider that screenwriter Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee”), who has previously written DC films such as “The Flash” and “Birds of Prey,” has been tasked by studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran to write the script for “The Brave & The Bold.”

So, Hodson isn’t unfamiliar with writing for characters from Gotham, and the report even mentions she was tasked to write a never-made “Batman Beyond” project and was also behind the solo “Batgirl” film that was shot and then infamously scrapped entirely by Warner Bros. Discovery‘s David Zaslav.
As far as we understand things, Andy Muschietti is still attached to direct the gestating Batman flick. However, he’s a tad busy with what could end up as a three-season commitment for HBO Max‘s “IT: Welcome To Derry” series (the next two seasons have yet to be officially greenlit by HBO, but are part of the show’s ultimate plan).
In this version, there is an expectation that Bruce Wayne’s young son Damian Wayne will take on the Robin mantle, but it remains to be seen who they’ll cast as both Bruce (taking on more of a fatherly role than in past movies) and Damian in the film. Although some have cautioned that the project won’t be an exact one-to-one with the comic book version. Yet, this seemingly does cement that Robert Pattinson‘s version of Batman won’t be a crossover with the mainline DCU, as previously indicated by both Gunn and Matt Reeves.
Speaking of Reeves/Pattinson, filming on “The Batman Part II” is expected to kick off before the summer in the United Kingdom, with two MCU alumni actors, Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, joining the sequel in mystery roles (potentially playing The Dent Family, but that hasn’t been made official).
This comes after Gunn, over the weekend, dispelled online rumblings they were already in the process of auditioning actors to play the new DCU iterations of both Batman and Wonder Woman, going even further to pour cold water on the idea they’ll be showing up in his “Superman” follow-up, “Man of Tomorrow” (sees Brainiac as the main antagonist).
With a screenwriter now set, “The Brave & The Bold” is in a much better position than it was last year, and fans can rest assured development is still happening on the Batman pic after Gunn alluded to “The Batman Part II” coming their main priority.
