Michelle Williams Nabs Role In Damien Chazelle’s Prison Drama Joining Cillian Murphy & Daniel Craig

Coming off her work on the acclaimed cancer sex dramedy “Dying For Sex,” actress Michelle Williams (earning a Golden Globe statue over the weekend and an Emmy nomination) has nabbed a part in Damien Chazelle’s (“Babylon,” “La La Land”) untitled film, which is said to be set in a prison. The project already has two heavyweights attached with Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) and former James Bond, Daniel Craig (“Wake Up Dead Man”), in lead roles.

Deadline revealed that Williams is joining the project, written and directed by Chazelle, and will produce alongside Olivia Hamilton under their Wild Chickens Productions banner, which Paramount Pictures will distribute.

This comes after Chazelle attempted to get his Evel Knievel film underway, with Leonardo DiCaprio set to play the legendary stuntman and eyeing recent Best Actor Oscar-winner Adrien Brody (“The Brutalist”) for another part. Sadly, that movie was put on the back burner as DiCaprio has booked other work in 2026, such as Martin Scorsese’s ghost movie “What Happens At Night” and had been in talks to be featured in Michael Mann’s action pic “Heat 2.”

It’s said that things started snowballing with the new prison drama once Murphy and Craig signed on, and now, as they fill out those subsequent roles, like with Michelle Williams, the project is expected to come together quickly, with filming set to begin later this year. We can expect more names to be announced in the coming weeks, along with more concrete character and plot details.

Some of the highlights from Michelle Williams’ film credits over the years include “The Fabelmans,” “Manchester By The Sea,” “Shutter Island,” “Blue Valentine,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “Brokeback Mountain.”
