‘The Batman Part II’ Co-Writer Mattson Tomlin Calls Sequel “New & Dangerous,” Confirms Animated Netflix Series ‘Terminator Zero’ Is Toast

Busy screenwriter Mattson Tomlin has taken to social media to share his excitement about the development of the new story crafted for “The Batman Part II,” which he’s been co-writing with director Matt Reeves, as the sequel is gearing up for production with Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan being recruited for new key parts opposite Robert Pattinson.

“We worked exceptionally hard to tell a story worthy of the character. Something that feels new and dangerous. The bar couldn’t be higher. Looking forward to people seeing it and being able to talk about it at length. Can’t begin to describe what this film means to me,” Tomlin posted gleefully about the highly anticipated Batman sequel over the weekend.

Reeves had been hoping to make and map out a trilogy of Gotham movies alongside in-universe spinoffs like the HBO Max series “The Penguin,” as a second season is being mulled over. We’re still waiting for official confirmation of the new roles after internet chatter of The Dent Family (Gotham prosecutor turned gangland villain Harvey Dent and wife Gilda Dent have been rumored for months as the roles set for Stan and Johansson) said to be the focus.

That wasn’t the only project update from Tomlin, as he confirmed that Netflix has indeed quietly cancelled his animated series “Terminator Zero,” ending with a single season. Telegraphing that the streamer made the call despite the warm audience and critical reception for the expansion of the “Terminator” lore.

“It was cancelled. The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day, not nearly enough people watched it. I would’ve loved to deliver on the Future War I had planned in seasons 2 and 3, but I’m also very happy with how it feels contained as is,” Tomlin responded when asked by a fan about an update on the Netflix series.

Interestingly enough, James Cameron is starting work on a script for a new live-action “Terminator” feature film after suggesting he’s been having issues coming up with ideas for it, but has stated that Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t be returning. We don’t know if those movie plans had anything to do with the demise of “Terminator Zero.”
