‘Supermax’: David Gordon Green Enlisted To Helm Prison-Set Action Thriller For Miramax

Filmmaker David Gordon Green is now set to helm “Supermax” for Miramax as it’s being fast-tracked into production for a reported start in the spring, as the prison-set thriller will focus on a murder in a supermax facility (not to be confused with the David S. Goyer script for his never-made prison-set “Green Arrow” film).

“Supermax,” as described in the Deadline piece as an action thriller, is going to be “a propulsive thriller with two FBI agents investigating a murder perpetrated within the world’s most secure prison.” Noted in the report, the screenwriting duo of David Weil and David J. Rosen (“Hunters” and “Invasion”) is behind the spec-script that saw Miramax come out on top during a bidding war.

Green, of course, had previously teamed with Blumhouse and Universal Pictures to make a trilogy of new legacy sequels for the “Halloween” franchise that would bring back lead actress Jamie Lee Curtis in her iconic role of Laurie Strode. He’s also behind the upcoming Prime Video series “Scarpetta,” a new series about a medical examiner in Virginia, with a solid cast that features Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, and Ariana DeBose. Rosen and Green are reuniting after teaming for the Apple TV series “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed,” which Green is said to be directing and executive producing.

The Picture Company‘s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona are producing “Supermax” with others also on board, including Miramax’s CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, and COO Thom Zadra are attached as executive producers along with Weil, Rosen, and associate producer Natalie Laine Williams.

Sadly, there is no casting news to speak of at this time for “Supermax,” but with a production start coming in the new year, we likely won’t have to wait too long to start hearing names of actors for the pic, as promised in the trade update on the project.
