After announcing her feature directorial debut with the AI film “Uncanny Valley,” Natasha Lyonne (“Poker Face,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”) has already lined up her next feature film effort with “Bambo,” a period boxing film that will be set during the 1980s.
The project, first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, will see Lyonne write, direct, and produce “Bambo.” It is said to follow “a Brooklyn-born boxing-promoter father as he tries and fails to become the next Don King, and takes his kid daughter along for the hurly burly ride of tax evasion, cocaine, race cars, lost dreams and heartbreak.”

However, what we don’t know about “Bambo” is the film’s cast, and it’s not stated in the report if Lyonne is going to be seen in front of the camera (but we have to assume she may and will be an option). Lyonne’s Animal Pictures banner with Max Ferguson is producing “Bambo” alongside Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl,” “The Last of Us”) for Word Games and Sarah Sarandos.
Filming on “Bambo” is expected to begin in the summer of 2026 and could explain why Lyonne decided to exit the Rian Johnson murder mystery series “Poker Face” after it was let go by Peacock and is being shopped around to other suitors, with Peter Dinklage (“Roofman”) attached to take over the lead role.
We should also add that “Uncanny Valley,” Lyonne’s AI film, is being made first and is produced by Asteria Film Co. (A hybrid AI studio Lyonne co-founded). The pic is “set in the world of immersive video games and will blend live-action and game elements while centering on a teenage girl who becomes unmoored by a hugely popular AR video game in a parallel present.” “Uncanny Valley” is being co-written by Lyonne and Brit Marling with Jaron Lanier.
