Andy Muschietti Talks Up Extended Super-Cut Of ‘IT’ Combining His Two Films In The Works

The recent HBO Max series “IT: Welcome To Derry” has pretty much solidified Andy Muschietti‘s take on Pennywise and the Stephen King work as the definitive version after the 1990 TV miniseries and Muschietti’s two feature films based on the original novel.

With that said, the director and creative partner Barbara Muschietti are still promising (from a Spanish language interview seemingly from 2025 promoting “Welcome To Derry,” spotted by a Stephen King fan account) a super/extended cut of “IT” in the works that is expected to combine his two movies while also including additional material and shooting “extra/new” footage for it.

Not only that, the pair has got the blessing from the prolific author himself. What exactly that looks like and when it’ll ultimately be given access to audiences remains to be seen (in theaters or simply for a special edition version for online/home video buyers). So, while this is a promising update on something fans have been awaiting for years, and might be some real movement going on, there are still questions to be answered.

“Welcome To Derry,” mainly takes place during 1962 and includes some background for Pennywise with actor Bill Skarsgård crossing over from films to the TV show, and goes on to even link the world of “The Shining” to Derry via Dick Hallorann. There is an expectation that the planned three-season arc will go even further in the past.

That said, HBO/WBD has yet to officially announce that a second season has been greenlit, but we assume that it is only a matter of time before that is made public. You can watch that brief exchange with The Muschietti’s talking about this extended cut below.
