Marvel’s Hit ‘X-Men ’97’ Series Already Has Season 4 Commitment Ahead Of Season 2 Debut In July

It sounds like Marvel Animation, Marvel Television, and Disney+ are all-in on “X-Men ’97” as there is official word from the creatives on the mutant-focused streaming series that they’re already working on a Season 4 after an early greenlight on Season 3, and the second batch of episodes, focused on the return of Apocalypse and introduction of the series version of X-Force, won’t be premiereing until July.

In a new profile at Entertainment Weekly, the show’s executive producer Larry Houston (co-director on the original Fox Kids series which was the basis for the modern continuation) has revealed that early development has started on a fourth season, something that is news to us but still expected as the “The X-Men” reboot, a mysterious “Deadpool” movie in development (possibly another team-up story), and other mutant-releated projects are expected with The Mutant Saga era of the MCU being on the horizon.

“They want everyone to know it’s only gonna be a year now between seasons, not two-and-a-quarter years…It’s gonna be a year until the next one and a year until the next one [after that]. They are on schedule now. One of the reasons they’re on schedule is we’ve gone over, given notes on, responded to not only all the scripts for season 3, all the animatics for season 3, we are in season 4 giving script notes. So that’s how deep they are into the development,” Houston told EW.

However, Houston stopped short without going into much detail about what those next two seasons will explore, but confirmed they’re already in the scripting phase on Season 4 and should be enough for fans excited that the show was revived in the first place, alongside the new fans.

Nobody should be really shocked here, as “X-Men ’97” (one of the more popular Marvel streaming series) has a huge benefit of being sort of a standalone project, and hasn’t directly impacted the live-action side of things (it could in the future and “Avengers: Secret Wars” sounds like anything is possible concerning crossovers), so that allows them to keep things chugging along without needing to wait for mainline MCU projects to be completed before moving on with their own stories/adventures.
