Writer/director Diego Céspedes makes their feature debut with “The Mysterious Gaze of The Flamgino.” As the film has been making the festival rounds and is now poised to arrive in U.S. theaters next month, as the Chilean drama featuring a story with drag performers and trans women set in a picturesque rural setting that is going to be Chile’s Best International Film entry at the upcoming Academy Awards after previously winning the Cannes Un Certain Regard Award.
A new trailer for the feature has made it’s way to us to share as group of actors assembled feature Tamara Cortes, Matías Catalán, Paula Dinamarca, Pedro Muñoz, Luis Dubó, Vicente, Bruna Ramírez, Sirena González, Alexa Quijano, and Francisco Día Z.

An official synopsis for the buzzy queer/trans drama set in the Chilean mountains:
Set in a remote Chilean mining town in 1982, Diego Céspedes’ dazzling debut feature follows young Lidia, who grows up within a vibrant queer household led by drag performers and trans women. When a mysterious illness—rumored to spread through the gaze between men—sows fear and hysteria, the community becomes the target of suspicion and violence. Through Lidia’s eyes, Céspedes crafts a haunting allegory of love, myth, and prejudice that reimagines the early AIDS era as a queer western with poetic intimacy and desert-dry surrealism.
