Emerald Fennell‘s feature take on “Wuthering Heights,” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, is heading to theaters this week. The actress is doing the press rounds and recently did an interview for Complex (via Entertainment Weekly) that was hosted by Charli XCX (the popular musician also appears in the romantic drama), where she revealed an extremely rude male co-star advised her to “eat less” with a very overt gift, a weight loss book.
“Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with, a male actor, gave me a book called ‘French Women Don’t Get Fat‘ (the Mireille Guiliano book was published in 2007), and it was essentially a book telling you to eat less,” Robbie told Charli XCX for Complex. “And I was like, f*** you, dude.” Adding, “He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. I was like, ‘Wow.'”

Robbie stopped short of saying which project this happened on or if this took place during her Australian soap days on “Neighbours” (part of the cast from 2008 to 2011). But one of her earliest Hollywood parts was a supporting part in the airline stewardess series “Pan Am,” and a plotline of the show was that the ladies had to adhere to outdated weight and beauty standards for her character to keep that specific job.
However, we don’t know if “Pan Am” or “Neighbours” was the project where this maddening interaction took place. That said, we have to admire Robbie’s restraint in not fully exposing this knucklehead actor for their body shaming a co-worker.
You can watch that full exchange between Margot Robbie and Charli below, as “Wuthering Heights” arrives this week just in time for Valentine’s Day (Saturday), and feel free to read The Playlist’s review of the new pic right here.
