Netflix’s ‘Scooby-Doo’ Live-Action Series Casts Mckenna Grace As Daphne

Netflix and Greg Berlanti are teaming for a new live-action series version of “Scooby-Doo,” the beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoon that Warner Bros. and James Gunn eventually developed into a short-lived feature film franchise.

Outlets such as Variety have reported that actress Mckenna Grace has been tapped to play Daphne Blake in the streaming series. We now wait to see which other actors are enlisted for the trio of unfilled Mystery Machine roles, including Fred, Velma, and Shaggy.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are set as writers, showrunners, and executive producers alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner for their Midnight Radio banner. Berlanti Productions’ Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman will also executive produce with the show hailing from Warner Bros. Television.

The report also featured the following logline for the Netflix series:

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

This project wouldn’t be a massive stretch for Grace, who has a key role in the last two “Ghostbusters” movies after tackling spectral threats. Creepy elements are a huge part of the “Scooby-Doo” franchise and are expected to continue with the new version coming from Netflix. We’re getting the impression the streamer might be hopeful that this could be the next “Wednesday” or “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” (Grace had once played young Sabrina Spellman) for them.
