Another nifty update on a long-gestating Warner Bros. project is their untitled “Ocean’s 11” prequel film, which recently saw Bradley Cooper step in to replace Ryan Gosling and sees him opposite in-demand actress Margot Robbie. Cooper is now set to co-star, produce, write, and also direct the pic (via THR), set to be released on June 25, 2027.
Cooper, sitting in the director’s chair, comes after being eyed to take over those duties when Lee Isaac Chung (“Twisters”) didn’t secure a deal with the studio and had been pursued for the project as his next feature effort. His previous directorial credits include “A Star Is Born” and “Is This Thing On?“
This is the clearest sign so far that production on the heist comedy spinoff is very much finally going to happen and is expected to take place in Europe rather than strictly in Las Vegas. Taking a page from “Ocean’s Twelve” and getting into more of the international cat-burglar lore that was teased in that film with The Night Fox (Vincent Cassel) and Gaspar LeMarc, previously portrayed by Albert Finney, a legendary thief that the crew admires, and one whom many believe Cooper is playing in the pic.
That’s not the only new film in the franchise, as “Ocean’s 14” is supposedly gearing up for a fall shoot with George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle set to reprise their roles (maybe more OG cast members down the line?). Although we’re still waiting on an announcement concerning a director, after this Cooper confirmation, we wouldn’t be all that shocked if Clooney ended up taking that gig himself (given his previous directing credentials), but that’s simply speculation as prep is underway, and they have production dates set (normally a director would be in place by now).
If the past four “Ocean’s” installments, including the spinoff “Ocean’s 8,” in the franchise are any indication, we’re going to see quite an impressive assembly of talent being put together alongside Cooper and Robbie, so we’ll certainly be sharing those casting updates when they come to us. Perhaps, we’ll see Cooper consider casting folks like Laura Dern, Will Arnett, or Lady Gaga for roles; the sky’s the limit for who could be asked to join the prequel, at this point.
Some of those other release date announcements made by the studio include “The Revenge of La Llorona” on April 9, 2027, “Evil Dead Wrath” on April 7, 2028, “Final Destination 7” on May 12, 2028), and Baz Luhrmann’s (“Elvis”) untitled “Joan of Arc” pic being given a prime awards season drop on November 22, 2028.
