Brad Pitt is coming off the box office success of his racing event film “F1” with a sequel potentially on the way (has been mused that it could involve Tom Cruise‘s “Days of Thunder” character Cole Trickle), and has his “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” follow-up, “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” from David Fincher (directing from a Quentin Tarantino script). However, his other project on the horizon is “Heart of the Beast,” a new David Ayer movie set in the Alaskan wilderness.
Thankfully, some new first-look images featuring Pitt in “Heart of the Beast” have made their way online via GQ Magazine, in their profile on the movie. The movie focused on a former soldier and his retired combat dog as they attempt to return to civilization after a catastrophic accident happens deep in the scenic but dangerous Alaskan wilderness (New Zealand standing in for the rugged terrain). This reunites Pitt and Ayer after they previously worked together on the WWII tank unit thriller ‘Fury.”

Others among the cast include Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash,” “The Westies”) and Canadian Inuk actress Anna Lambe (‘The Social Reckoning,” “True Detective: Night Country”). Pitt in the pic plays “James Belmont, a 30-year Army Special Forces veteran who heads to the Alaskan wilderness with his partner-in-service Odin, only for a plane crash to leave them stranded and relying on each other to make it to safety.”
“He’s a beast,” Ayer said of Pitt in the movie. “He was vulnerable and exposed himself in a way that I haven’t seen before. A constant theme from people who have seen the film is just how raw, believable, and profound his performance is.”
“Whether it’s a couple soldiers in a tank, two cops in a car, or a retired military operator and his working canine, it’s two beings that have gone through hell and back together and share this deep bond and intimacy. Working with animals is its own experience, and sometimes you can see the lack of connection when people do these movies, but we really made the dog a living, breathing, fully-formed character, with a soulful presence. And you can feel their history, their connection.”
Paramount Pictures‘ “Heart of the Beast” won’t be heading to theaters until September 25, but to fill that void, you can view those new images from the movie below, including some behind-the-scenes snaps. We have to assume that a teaser trailer is just around the corner, although it’s a tad unclear when the studio is going to drop that.
